Jarret Myer
Co-founder & CEO
UPROXX
Jarret Myer is the original co-founder and current CEO of UPROXX, a platform that merges pop culture with authenticity. He started his career in the 1990s as the co-founder of Rawkus Records, where he was pivotal in pushing the envelope of hip hop and bringing some of the genre’s most iconic artists into the limelight, including Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def), Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and El-P (currently of Run the Jewels). Rawkus was sold to Universal Music in 2005.
Rawkus taught him that the artist is the platform. Everything since has been an attempt to build the infrastructure around that idea. In 2008 he co-founded UPROXX, establishing it as a haven for young, culturally savvy audiences and growing it into a multimedia powerhouse spanning music, film, sports, and lifestyle, all served with an authentic voice that speaks directly to engaged and passionate fandoms. In 2011 he co-founded Big Frame, one of the first multi-channel networks built on YouTube. Big Frame signed, developed, and monetized a generation of native video talent before the industry had language for any of it, organizing creators into audience-defined verticals rather than chasing individual channels. AwesomenessTV acquired the company in 2014. The lesson carried forward: distribution follows the creator, and the creator’s audience is the durable asset.
Warner Music Group acquired UPROXX in 2018, and Myer spent the next six years building the video and brand partnership business inside the world’s most valuable music catalog. In 2024 he bought it back. Partnering with will.i.am and Rich Antoniello, the founding CEO of Complex Networks, he acquired UPROXX, HipHopDX, and Dime Magazine to form an independent company that continues to run video sales on behalf of Warner.
Across nearly three decades, Myer has repeatedly anticipated where culture and attention were moving next — from independent hip-hop, to digital publishing, to YouTube-native talent, and now to connected television. Few media operators have built culturally consequential businesses across that many distinct eras, and fewer still have bought one of those businesses back to lead its next chapter.
That arc shapes his thesis today: musicians are the original super creators, and premium attention follows the people audiences trust. Myer is now building UPROXX into the modern music television and culture network — uniting creator-led programming, scaled YouTube and connected-TV distribution, and brand partnerships around the enduring power of fandom.
