Director of Engineering E W Scripps I lead engineering and operations for two Southern Arizona TV news stations (KGUN/KWBA), providing technical leadership and advisory oversight across broadcast network systems, transmission (RF & satellite), master control/playout and studio systems. Across a 30+ year career I’ve held senior engineering roles across public media, commercial broadcast and national distribution — from VP Broadcast Operations at DIRECTV overseeing U.S. uplink centers to engineering leadership roles at Arizona Public Media, Nebraska Public Media, PBS, Fox Networks and station engineering leadership at KWHY and KMEX. My practical experience spans satellite uplinks, post production, automated playout, IP/ST‑2110 migration readiness and standards work. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and served as an Avionics Technician in the United States Navy. I’m active in industry standards and professional communities — former board member, ATSC and AMWA; active member of SMPTE, SBE and IEEE — and I prioritize operational resilience, automation and staff development so stations stay on air when it matters most.
