Successful editing is grounded in understanding the fundamentals, basic things that all editors need to know that can be used over a lifetime of post-production. This session is for new editors and content creators who are new to post-production and want a primer on how the process is supposed to work.
What is post-production?
• Where post fits into the process and how it is more than just editing. Post includes editorial, sound, visual effects, color, and delivery.
• The process: “pre‑production → production → post‑production,” but even though post is at the end, post considerations should happen before the end of the process.
What is the post-production process?
• Ingest and organization of media
• The Edit: assembly, rough cut, fine cut, and lock picture.
• Clients and stakeholder involvement
Sound, music, and graphics
• Dialogue cleanup, sound effects, music and licensing.
• Lower thirds and titles as part of finishing.
Color and finishing
• Basic color correction vs creative grading (match shots, fix exposure/white balance, then stylize).
• Exporting and delivering files.
