Steve Hellmuth rose to Executive Vice President, Media Operations of the NBA. Steve oversaw the league’s broadcast operations, engineering and stats, and analytics technology departments. The global delivery of video and statistics via satellite, fiber, broadband and mobile falls under Hellmuth’s purview. He was also responsible for the development and implementation of the NBA broadcast facility standards for the design, construction and operation of NBA arenas, including lighting and camera placement in-venue.

While working at the NBA, Hellmuth was responsible for innovations such as the NBA Replay Center, the Mobile Vue Broadcast, the illumination of the lights in the backboard, and the development and strategy for production from the bubble for the NBA season and playoffs in 2020. Under his direction, the NBA installed SportVU Player Tracking technology in every venue for the 2013-14 season, making the NBA the first major U.S. professional sports league to quantify and analyze player movement.

Prior to joining the NBA in 2000, Hellmuth served asproduction manager for Super Bowl XX, produced the Emmy-nominated opening telecasts for the 1986 World Series, and coordinated the production of Olympic profiles for the 1980 Moscow games. He also produced Larry Bird Night for the Boston Celtics and the on-field All-Century Team Celebration at the 1999 MLB All-Star Game.

Steve is currently running Hellmuth Co., LLC which consults with leagues and technology companies. Hellmuth graduated from Princeton University in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in art history.
