
Sally-Ann D’Amato is Executive Director of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), where she leads the organization’s strategic, operational, and governance priorities in service of the global media technology community. A 20-plus-year SMPTE veteran, she brings deep institutional knowledge shaped by leadership roles spanning operations, events, and board governance.
Since joining SMPTE in 2001, D’Amato has overseen key milestones, including the Society’s centennial celebration and the continued evolution of the SMPTE Media Technology Summit. She directs organizational strategy, budget stewardship, and cross-section collaboration while supporting the standards community that underpins modern media workflows. Under her leadership, SMPTE has expanded engagement initiatives, strengthened industry partnerships, and advanced emerging focus areas such as content provenance and authenticity.
A visible representative of the Society at global industry forums, including NAB Show, D’Amato regularly speaks on SMPTE’s role in shaping technical standards and professional education. In recent interviews, including with Immersive Media, she has emphasized collaboration, innovation, and the collective responsibility of the standards community in navigating AI, IP-based production, and evolving distribution models.
