A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Jonathan attended and earned his B.S. degree in Meteorology from Penn State in 2010. In 2014, Jonathan earned the designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society. The AMS CBM designation is the highest rating awarded by the American Meteorological Society.
Jonathan’s interest in meteorology began at a very young age. Thunderstorms scared him when he was little and he always wanted to know what was going on when he frantically ran into his parents’ room. The Blizzard of 1993 also helped to spark his interest in the weather. At five years old, he remembers his dad opening the garage door to almost two feet of snow.
Jonathan began his career in Rochester, Minnesota as the weekend meteorologist at KTTC-TV. While he enjoys being in a MUCH warmer climate now, he’ll miss the wind chills routinely dipping to 40 below and the snow being above the mailboxes for most of the winter.
In March of 2015, Jonathan moved to Roanoke, Virginia where he covered three EF-3 tornadoes and deadly flooding brought on by Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
Jonathan is happy to say that the weather is not only his job, but his hobby as well. When he is not forecasting, he is checking up on his favorite sports teams. Jonathan is a huge Pirates, Steelers, Penguins, and of course, Nittany Lions fan. He enjoys keeping in touch with his two younger brothers Ryan and Matt and all of his family back home in Pittsburgh.
