Dr. Hans Hoffmann holds a telecommunications engineering degree from Munich Applied Sciences University, and a PhD (Electronics and Design) from Brunel University in the UK.

Hans is Deputy Director EBU Technology and Innovation Department and heads the media fundamentals and production technologies unit. He works closely with the EBU Technical Committee in defining its strategy and focus on emerging media technology strategies such as AI, immersive media, IP and cloud infrastructures, Cyber Security, Data, Metadata and how Media organisations manage their technology driven transformations.

Hans is the chair of the Media Technology Futures groups which consist of the senior managers of the R&D centers of BBC, RAI, NHK, VRT, YLE and many others and co-chairs the Forum of Advanced Media in Europe (FAME) and the Inter-SDO group. He has a long history in SMPTE such as President, Past President, Standards VP, Finance VP, Executive VP and various roles in Standards. Hans is a fellow of the SMPTE and recipient of the Richard-Theile Medal of the FKTG in 2021. Previously he has been with the Institute fuer Rundfunktechnik in Munich for more than 9 years working as project manager and scientific staff.
