Dr. Aditi Majumder is a professor turned entrepreneur, considered a pioneer in the domain of Spatially Augmented Reality (SAR). After finishing her PhD from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, she has been a tenured faculty in School of Information and Computer Sciences in University of California, Irvine (UCI) for 20+ years. Her research on SAR led to foundational books, 100+ publications and multiple keynotes around the world and made UCI a name to reckon with in this domain. She was the recipient of the NSF CAREER award, Argonne National Lab Given’s Fellowship and Link Fellowship award. She is also a senior IEEE Member.
In 2015 Dr. Majumder started Summit Technology Laboratory (STL) to translate the deep tech from her research. STL, located in Irvine CA, developed the first AI powered computer vision software, Artemis, that allows users to put together multiple projectors in minutes with a push of a button to build wearable-free immersive environments – with unmatched accuracy, scalability and hardware independence. Artemis was developed using $6M in non-dilutive funding from federal agencies and is currently generating revenues. Dr. Majumder and STL’s dream is to build the first Holodeck like experience by 2032 where users can move around freely without any headsets as visuals change consistent with their viewpoint in the immersive environment and also interact with it using lucid body gestures. What has held the dreams of millions through the lens of Hollywood movies (e.g. Star Wars, Minority Report, Ironman) can actually come to fruition in the next decade using STL’s deep technology.
