David Morin is Executive Director of the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF), the neutral industry home for open source software development serving the motion picture, television, and streaming communities.

Under his leadership since 2018, the Foundation has grown into the governing body behind some of the most widely adopted frameworks in modern production — OpenColorIO, OpenEXR, OpenVDB, MaterialX, and ACES among them. These tools are embedded in the pipelines behind films including “Flow,” “Dune: Part Two,” “The Wild Robot,” “Inside Out 2,” and “Moana 2.”

Prior to ASWF, Morin spent over six years at Epic Games leading industry relations and the Los Angeles Lab, and has held executive and consulting roles at Autodesk, Avid/Softimage, Manex Visual Effects, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

He brings a career-long perspective on how open source software, commercial technology, and industry standards intersect to shape the tools professionals rely on every day.
