Four Layers, Zero Migration: The AI Pipeline Behind Warner Bros’ Studio Asset Intelligence

Sunday, April 19 | noon – 12:20 p.m. | W1242: Tech Chat Theater

Every major studio sits on petabytes of content scattered across disconnected storage systems — and finding what you already own is harder than creating it from scratch. Assets get re-shot, footage gets re-licensed, and entire teams spend their days on manual tagging that never quite catches up. This talk tells the story of how StorageDNA and Warner Bros' Flashpoint team solved that problem from the ground up — starting not with a new DAM purchase, but with the index that was already there. We'll walk through the four-layer architecture built on the StorageDNA foundation: from universal storage visibility, through an orchestration gateway with per-production policies, to AI-powered enrichment across 142 file formats, to a unified metadata fabric built on the MovieLabs OMC 2030 schema. The result is a pipeline where a file landing on a production volume becomes a fully tagged, searchable asset in under 30 seconds — with zero manual touches. You'll hear what this looks like in production: 80% reduction in manual tagging labor, screenplay parsing dropping from 4–8 hours to under 30 seconds, and 57 generative AI models accessible through a single API. We'll share the hard-won lessons — why the metadata layer has to be opinionated, why polling kills scale, and why AI is a force multiplier rather than a replacement for the people who run the system. If your studio has tried to modernize from the top down with a DAM purchase, or from the bottom up with custom scripts, this session offers a third path: build intelligence in layers on top of the index you already trust.
