NAB Show New York Viewpoints with Don Hewitt, Ross Video.
Powering the Next Generation of Studio Operations
What to expect from Ross Video at NAB Show New York this year
For the Canada-based media technology leader, NAB Show New York is more than a showcase — it’s a stage to demonstrate how Ross Video is shaping the next era of live production. To learn more about what’s ahead at the Show and emerging trends in media and entertainment, we spoke with Don Hewitt, director of sales for Canada and the U.S. East Coast.
At the Intersection of Cloud, IP and Innovation
Don Hewitt joined Ross Video in 2012 as the regional sales manager for central and western Canada. With a background in broadcast technology, he now leads sales strategy and customer engagement across two key markets, helping clients in North America succeed with Ross Video solutions.
“It’s an exciting time in the market,” Hewitt said. “Everything from curiosity and implementation of cloud technologies. On top of all that, there’s still the transition from SDI to IP, so hyperconverged solutions are a big conversation for us.”
As the industry evolves, Ross Video is positioning itself at the intersection of cloud, IP and software-defined production solutions, giving broadcasters more flexibility than ever before.
Redefining the Switcher Market
One of Ross Video’s headline innovations for 2025 is Carbonite HyperMax, the newest expansion of the Carbonite family that pushes into the high-end switcher market. HyperMax is a software-defined, licensable production switcher designed for both large-scale productions and multiple smaller shows, all without requiring additional hardware.
Ross Video has continued to build momentum this year with additional launches, including:
- Lama Audio: A software-based audio mixing platform for both cloud and on-premises environments, bridging video and audio workflows.
- NRG: The first compact SDI routing platform with built-in multiviewer functionality, supporting everything from HD to UHD.
These innovations, available onsite at NAB Show New York, highlight Ross Video’s mission to deliver scalable, efficient and future-ready tools for live production.
It’s an exciting time in the market. Everything from curiosity and implementation of cloud technologies. On top of all that, there’s still the transition from SDI to IP, so hyperconverged solutions are a big conversation for us.

A Fireside Chat on Reinventing Studio Operations
Beyond the booth, Ross Video will host a fireside chat on Wednesday, Oct. 22, featuring Matthew Miller, vice president of studio operations at E.W. Scripps, and Chris Lennon, director of R&D standards strategy at Ross Video.
When E.W. Scripps began building its national studio operations six years ago, the team started from scratch with minimal broadcast gear, no technical staff and little infrastructure. Miller, who came from a hands-on production background, took on the challenge of growing the operation from the ground up.
Today, E.W. Scripps powers three fully equipped control rooms and multiple studios across the country, producing sports, news, entertainment and infotainment content for millions of viewers.
In this fireside chat, Miller will share the strategic decisions and unified control-room philosophy that help his team stay agile and efficient. From flipping the same facility between a WNBA pregame show, a breaking-news segment and a lifestyle program in a single day, attendees will get an inside look at how E.W. Scripps uses shared resources and robotic camera systems to stretch production budgets without sacrificing creativity.
“I’m really excited for this one,” Hewitt said. “Matthew will talk about how he’s changed his studio operations to become more efficient and add value to increase production.”
For attendees, the conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at how broadcasters are adopting Ross Video’s next-generation tools to innovate, scale and redefine what’s possible in live production.
