Steve Tobenkin is a strategic advisor working at the intersection of technology, media production, and industry collaboration.
He advises the Academy Software Foundation—an open-source initiative of the Linux Foundation—on strategy, communications, and industry engagement around open technologies used in film and television production. For more than a decade, he has also advised the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on technology initiatives (including ACES), industry outreach, and conference programming.
Earlier in his career, Steve shaped the strategy and industry positioning for the launch of Canon Cinema EOS, contributing to the growth of what became one of the most widely adopted digital cinema platforms of the past decade. His work focuses on helping organizations translate new technologies—including open-source software, advanced imaging systems, and evolving production workflows—into practical use across the industry.
Through his advisory work, Steve connects technology companies, studios, and creative professionals to accelerate the integration of new tools and workflows across the global media production ecosystem.
