
Chriss attended the University of Miami (Florida) and graduated from the Music Engineering Technology program in 1987, his first taste of radio being at WVUM-FM, the campus radio station at UM. After graduation he worked in South Florida as a radio engineer or an announcer for several stations including WVCG-AM, WTMI-FM, WHYI-FM, WKIS-FM and WQAM-AM. During his radio engineering career he worked in Bridgeport, CT (WEBE-FM); Reading, PA (WYCL-FM); and Cleveland, OH (WDOK-FM/WRMR-AM, WZAK-FM/WZJM-FM/WJMO-AM, WMMS-FM/WHK-AM). His experience as a contributing author to Broadcast Engineering and Radio magazines lead him to being hired as editor of Radio magazine from 1997 to 2014. He is a fellow member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and has served Chapters 59 Kansas City and 70 Northeast Ohio as chair and other roles. He served on the SBE national board of directors and was president from 2005 to 2007. He chaired the SBE National Certification Committee before being elected president. In 2015 he was hired by the SBE to be the communications director. He holds the SBE’s CPBE and CBNT certifications.
