'A' Camera Dolly Grip

Independent Professional

Eric Zucker. better known as EZ, was born and raised in Southern California and fell in love with photography at an early age. His dad was an amateur underwater diver and photographer. With Eric’s love for the ocean and photography, it was no wonder that those two things became his career.

Eric started shooting a lot of surfing, which led him into the motion picture industry. He has now been working on film and television projects for almost 30 years, with much of that time as an “A” Camera Dolly Grip. Eric gravitated to the dolly, as he was intrigued by its many capabilities and how it challenged him to use movement as a part of storytelling. Eric has often pushed it to new levels, helping to find its ultimate capabilities. Eric also is an admirer of fixed arm cranes and many times he works to combine the dolly with fixed arms, giving a flexibility to push the envelope of creativity and elevate performance on set.

As remote heads and articulating arms became more widely used, it was a natural progression for Eric to also want build his skill set in their use as well. As a Dolly Grip, he had the ability to tech remote heads and cranes, which gave him the flexibility to carry them on all of his shows.

Eric is a huge proponent of not letting the equipment dictate the shot, but of letting the shot dictate the equipment. He prides himself on knowing the true capabilities of all equipment, so he can watch rehearsals and know how far the equipment can be pushed to get the exact shot that Operators, DP’s, and Director’s want.

This attention to detail and thought process has offered Eric the opportunity to be a on set for projects

including, but not limited to, Memoirs of a Geisha, Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Star Trek: Picard, and The Boston Strangler.

After spending many years behind his dolly and cranes, Eric is currently fortunate enough to work for Chapman/Leonard, helping to push Grip Dolly equipment to the next level. This has been an incredible partnership for Eric, continuing to strive for excellence. Never done learning about camera movement, Eric has the opportunity with Chapman/Leonard to add his knowledge to the wisdom of many industry greats, including their president, Charles. Eric is challenged every day, and if any you’ve ever seen him on set, you will know that challenged is when he thrives.

Erck is blessed to have worked with many great Operators and DPs throughout his career on many features and television shows, all of whom have taught him so much. They have given Eric the freedom to express himself with some of the most complicated shots of storytelling. He continues to work hard at his craft and takes a lot of pride in camera movement. Eric is excited for the future of filmmaking and the equipment to make it happen. He hopes to continue making sure that we stay dynamic and efficient, ensuring the right equipment is used for the right scene.

Eric believes there many different aspects of storytelling, and when they all come together organically, they become that magical shot that is embedded in our hearts and minds forever.
