Dr. Joel Snyder is known internationally as a pioneer in the field of Audio Description. Since 1981, Dr. Snyder has introduced audio description techniques in over 40 states and 65 countries and has made thousands of media events accessible to people who are blind or have low vision.

In 2014, the American Council of the Blind published Dr. Snyder’s book The Visual Made Verbal: A Comprehensive Training Manual and Guide to the History and Applications of Audio Description–it is available in Braille and as audio book from the Library of Congress and in print in seven languages. Dr. Snyder’s PhD is in audiovisual translation/audio description from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.
