Sean McGarvy is senior director of digital news and content strategy at E.W. Scripps. In this role, he develops and executes the strategic vision for news content across all Scripps News Group digital platforms, including Scripps News and Scripps’ local stations.
Before stepping into his current role in June 2025, McGarvy served as Scripps’ senior director of local news strategy since April 2020, working closely with Scripps’ local markets to implement content strategy and helping them to create connection within their communities.
McGarvy’s career spans almost 30 years in newsrooms across the country, including serving as news director at WEWS, Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Cleveland, and the assistant news director at KMGH, Scripps’ ABC affiliate in Denver.
His work has been recognized with seven Edward R. Murrow Awards and 10 regional Emmy Awards. McGarvy has served as a director at large for RTDNA/RTDNF and on the board of NATAS’ National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
