With 12 years in public media and 19 years across multiple disciplines of engineering in total, Tyler Brock currently serves as Director of Engineering at SCETV and SC Public Radio, the state-wide Educational Television and Public Radio provider for South Carolina. Prior to joining SCETV, Tyler was Director of Technology and Operations for the Digital Convergence Alliance, a private sector organization providing centralized master control services to PBS stations in 14 markets around the US with a comprehensive approach, spanning from traffic services to final broadcast encode and over-the-air presence monitoring. As the technical landscape of the broadcast industry evolves, Tyler utilizes his background in IP network engineering, virtualization and traditional IT disciplines to lead and support the ETV team though these changes. As a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), Tyler has a deep interest in the role standards and education will play in the future of broadcast technology. Tyler has a special focus on analyzing emergent technologies and how they relate to the future of media industries and SCETV in order to continue to advance the capabilities of the group as a whole.
SCETV manages a large array of tower sites around the state of South Carolina and has begun to utilize drone technology for creative media production as well. As a result, Tyler has become a licensed UAV pilot and is active in SCiDUC, an organization formed to facilitate South Carolina State government employees in sharing knowledge and resources for UAV/UAS technology across multiple agencies.
