Tomas Martinez

CEO at Solmart Media

Tomás Martinez has been a leader in the radio industry for four decades, currently serving as CEO and owner of Solmart Media, LLC since 2014. He oversees all management operations for the company’s five Southwest Florida stations: WTWD-AM, WTWD-FM, WZSP-FM/HD, WTMY-FM, and WTMY-AM.

Prior to Solmart Media, Martinez was General Manager and COO of Actualidad Media Group in Miami and spent a decade as GM of Radio Caracol at PRISA Radio. There, he expanded the station’s reach by upgrading its signal from 5,000 to 50,000 watts, secured broadcast rights for the Miami Dolphins and the FIFA World Cup, and more than tripled revenue while enhancing employee benefits.

Martinez also managed stations in Miami and New York and supervised 24 properties under the Radio Unica network, building a top-tier sales team and successful programming strategy. Earlier in his career, he was Florida Regional General Sales Manager for Shadow Broadcast Services/Westwood One, where he was mentored by industry icon Mel Karmazin. He launched his media career in 1983 at WOJO-FM in Chicago and later held leadership roles at Heftel Broadcasting, overseeing national marketing and merchandising efforts.

Beyond his professional achievements, Martinez has been deeply involved in civic organizations. He currently serves on the Florida Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors and the National Association of Broadcasters’ Small and Medium Market Board. He is also an active board member of Sarasota’s Jazz Club and a long-time organizer of the Hispanic Radio Ink conference. Previously, he was affiliated with the Dean’s Council at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the NAB Leadership Training Program.

A native of Cuba, Martinez moved to Chicago in 1970 and earned his degree from Loyola University in 1984. He has lived in Sarasota, Florida, since 2018 with his wife, Mercedes. Their daughter Victoria, 28, resides in New York City with her husband and works for Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, while their son Thomas, 25, is a second-year law student at DePaul University.
