Sylvia Longmire

Accessible travel writer, actor, and producer at Wheels Up Media

Sylvia Longmire is an award-winning accessible travel writer and photographer, author, entrepreneur, and disability rights advocate. She is also a service-disabled US Air Force veteran, full-time wheelchair user, single mother, and the former Ms. Wheelchair USA 2016.

Sylvia is the founder of the award-winning Spin the Globe travel blog, on which she shares her adventures traveling around the world in a power wheelchair. She focuses on the wheelchair accessibility of her destinations, encouraging fellow wheelchair users to explore the world. Her accessible travel writing has been featured in The New York Times, New Mobility magazine, The Orlando Sentinel, and Lonely Planet, and she has published four accessible travel-related books. 

As a result of her travels, Sylvia has created and produced over 150 travel-related videos and created thousands of photographs highlighting the accessibility of destinations around the world, as well as representing wheelchair users everywhere. These videos are where her voiceover work truly began.

Sylvia was also a subject matter expert on Mexico’s drug war and border security. For 14 years, she was a frequent guest on major media outlets, providing interviews for CNN, MSBNC, FOX News, NBC Nightly News, and more. Sylvia has been a guest expert on The History Channel’s Brad Meltzer’s Decoded and America’s War on Drugs, and has also consulted for producers of the National Geographic Channel’s Border Wars and Drugs, Inc. series. She is the author of two books on these issues, as well as hundreds of articles for homeland security publications. This is where her on-camera work began.

In 2019, Sylvia began development of Spin the Globe, a documentary series that will follow her during her solo wheelchair travels and highlight the fascinating people she meets. She is continuously working on travel media productions, and feature videos and ads for major national brands. Sylvia is also an screen and voice actor, having recently appeared in an episode of 'The English Teacher' on FX. She is forever enthusiastic about work that will emphasize and help increase media representation of people with disabilities.
