John Passmore is the Director of Audio Product at NYPR, where he leads the architecture and technical product development of audio distribution systems. His work encompasses dynamic ad tech, digital signal processing, content distribution systems, data analytics workflows, and third-party business partnerships. Passmore has been instrumental in re-engineering NYPR's content delivery networks and driving technical advancements in DAI to optimize revenue streams. He collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, bridging the gap between technology, content, and business development to streamline workflows and ensure seamless audio experiences for diverse audiences.
Prior to his current role, John Passmore led large-scale digitization projects, helped develop the PBCore metadata standard for audio objects, and implemented the station’s first enterprise digital asset management system. Beyond his work at NYPR, he has been a time-based media conservator for major museums and cultural heritage institutions and served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute.
He holds a Master’s in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation from New York University and a Bachelor’s in English and Philosophy, graduating Magna Cum Laude from James Madison University.
