SESSION SPEAKER

Craig LeFevre

Station Manager at WCTE

Craig LeFevre interned with WCTE’s production department while earning his BS in Journalism at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn.

After college, he wrote for and edited local newspapers, where it seemed he was always the only one able to fix the computers.

Taking the hint, he returned to Tech where he earned an MBA in Management Information Systems.

Burned out after a couple of unsatisfying database management jobs, he returned to WCTE to take over the nighttime Master Control shift.

Working closely with engineers as the station transitioned from analog to digital was enough to get him hooked on TV technology.

Nearly 20 years later, he’s still with WCTE as Station Manager.

Along the way, he has worked in every conceivable production position, rebuilt and managed the station’s mobile production vehicle, earned the Society of Broadcast Engineers’ CBTE certification, built a hot-standby studio inside Putnam County’s Emergency Operations Center, and organized the chaos of moving from one facility to another as Director of Technical Operations.

Since 2021, Craig has been the local engineering contact for PMVG’s W35DZ LPTV station, located in WCTE’s transmitter building. He is a member of Tennessee’s State Emergency Communications Committee and the PBS ETAC Public Safety Working Group.

Craig has been driving the same Dodge truck every day for 19 years and he’s pretty happy to eat almost any part of a pig.
