Sam Rosen

Practice Director

Research Focus

Sam Rosen is an expert on the transitions to digital and IP video delivery within Pay TV services (cable, satellite, IPTV and terrestrial), migration to the cloud, set-top boxes, middleware and over the top (OTT) video.  Sam’s 15+ years of experience in technology and strong industry relationships help clients to identify competitive forces and map out winning strategies in a rapidly changing market.  As practice director of ABI Research’s TV & video team, Sam manages ABI’s team responsible for consumer electronics, the connected home and Pay TV forecasting.

Sam is frequently cited in industry publications including EE Times, Communications Daily, IPTV News, Fierce Cable and Advanced Television. He has also been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and appeared as an expert on NPR.  He regularly leads keynote presentations and panels at conferences, which have included Telcovision and Cloud Computing West.

Past Experience, Memberships, Intellectual Property

For several years prior to joining ABI Research, Sam headed his own company, Blue House Tech, LLC, carrying out contract research and analysis projects for ABI Research and others.

He started his career in design and architecture of microprocessors and moved into customer-facing field applications and marketing roles. He has helped to develop disruptive core technologies used in diverse products including VoIP, digital cameras, video broadcast equipment, set-top boxes, femtocells, wireless handsets and wireless base stations.

He has worked as a design engineer at Intel, principal architect at semiconductor IP start-up Lexra, and as a principal engineer at several wireless semiconductor start-ups. More recent positions have included those of manager, sales engineering/marketing at Faraday, and field application engineer at Ambric.

Sam has been a member of IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society since 1992, and holds a patent for a High Performance RISC Instruction Set Digital Signal Processor.

Education

Sam holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Washington University, a M.S. in the same subject from Stanford University, and a MBA from Arizona State University.

He is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
