Securing your booth from pre-show through post-show
Securing your booth, products and property onsite begins before the initial shipment is in transit. Make sure that exhibit property and product are shipped in containers that do not indicate the contents. Lockable containers for the shipment are effective in keeping property and products secure during transit. Use black shrink wrap when wrapping skids or pallets so that the contents are not visible. If possible, have staff onsite to receive, inventory and secure the shipment upon delivery. This staff can also notate and notify appropriate parties of any damage to the shipment.
Valuable items such as computers, laptops, TV monitors, cameras, electronic tablets, etc. should be removed from the shipment and secured immediately. Staff should be scheduled in the booth during posted exhibitor access times. DTA Security provides complimentary in-booth security assessments and recommendations. Do not leave valuable items unsecured or unattended in the booth at any time. Do not place valuables behind the booth drape, under tables, or in cabinets as these areas are commonly targeted for valuables. Tether cables, security cages and security cases are effective in securing items in the booth. Security cages and cases should be large enough to prevent them from being moved or can be secured to a permanent fixture in the booth. NAB and DTA offer complimentary overnight lock up service for exhibitors. There are overnight lock up areas in North Hall, Central Hall and South Hall which accept all exhibitor property and products. Lock up items are received in the afternoon and must be claimed the following morning. Contract security can be hired to provide dedicated security presence in your booth.
The night before the show opens is a critical security night. Ensure that staff remain in the booth as late as possible and that all valuable items are properly secured in the booth or are taken to a complimentary overnight lock up. On show days, plan to staff in the booth during all exhibitor access times. It takes about an hour to clear the attendees off the show floor. This is another critical time that should have staff present in the booth. In the evening, place trash cans on the outer edge of the booth so that service providers don’t need to enter the booth. Use barriers such as construction fencing or caution tape to stop and deter people from entering the booth. The night of the show break is another critical security night. Ensure that staff remain in the booth as late as possible and that all valuable items are properly secured in the booth or are taken to a complimentary overnight lock up.
The outbound shipment should be handled the same way as the inbound shipment. Ensure that contents are not listed or indicated on containers and that black wrap is used for shrink wrapping needs. If possible, schedule staff to be present until the shipment is picked up. DTA Security management is always available to discuss security matters and to address concerns or questions.
