Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.
Maj Gen Poss is responsible to the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force for policy formulation, planning, evaluation, oversight, and leadership of Air Force ISR capabilities. He leads more than 20,000 ISR officers, enlisted and civilians across the Air Force ISR Enterprise. This includes the Air Force Intelligence Analysis Agency as well as the Air Force ISR Agency which includes the 480th ISRW, 70th ISRW, National Air and Space Intelligence Center, and the Air Force Technical Applications Center. General Poss has commanded at the squadron, group, and wing levels. He has also served as the Director of Intelligence at both Headquarters US Air Force Europe and Air Combat Command.
Kevin W. Ayers
Imagery Analyst, NGA
Kevin Ayers has been an imagery analyst at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency for almost 15 years. In his 15 years at NGA, Kevin has been a pathfinder for both observation management and in advanced phenomenology integration. He is currently on the editorial board for the Geospatial-Intelligence Review--an analytic tradecraft journal--and is the lead facilitator for the Deepening Analytic Expertise Working Group.
Matthew Cro
Chief of the Imagery Systems Branch,
U.S. Army Geospatial Center
Mr. Matthew B. Cro has served as the Chief of the Imagery Systems Branch of the U.S. Army Geospatial Center in Alexandria, Virginia since 2005. The Imagery Systems Branch is the Army's knowledge center for geospatial intelligence expertise and provides geospatial intelligence information capability and systems to field units. As the Chief of Imagery Systems, Mr. Cro is responsible for supporting the operations, intelligence and acquisition communities within the Army and other Department of Defense and National programs with the development and fielding of geospatial intelligence capabilities, architectures, tools and services. The Branch provides direct systems engineering and acquisition support to multiple Program Executive Officers and Program Managers involved in national and tactical programs.
Paul DiPietro
Coordinating Director, ESPN Event Operations
Paul DiPietro, who started working at ESPN in its first week of operation in 1979 and joined the company three months later, is a coordinating director in ESPN's Event Operations department. His responsibilities include overseeing operations and engineering functions at a variety of remote productions, plus personnel management and departmental administration. A member of the department since 1995 after earlier working in the broadcast promotions and studio operations departments, he assumed his current role in 2006.
DiPietro served as a freelance director on SportsCenter starting the week of ESPN's launch on September 7, 1979. In December, he officially joined the company and as of 2011, he is one of approximately 25 people remaining from 1979 in a company that now numbers close to 7,000.
For his first six years at ESPN, he worked in studio operations, working on both in-house and remote productions in editing, as a technical director and in other technical roles. In 1985, he joined the broadcast promotions department as a producer/director. His duties were overseeing the complete production of on-air promotions including the writing, directing and editing. He produced a variety of marketing multi-media presentations for ESPN's affiliate marketing department, including the launching of Major League Baseball and ESPN2. His work earned him ESPN's first Sports Emmy nomination in the Broadcast Promotions category.
In 1995 he joined the Event Operations department as an operations coordinator. A year later he was promoted to operations producer, in 2000 to Manager and in 2005 to senior director.
DiPietro's has won various film and television awards including six Sports Emmy Awards and in event operations has worked on virtually all the major sports and special events ESPN has produced. Notably, he has worked on the NFL, college football, NASCAR, Major League Baseball, the Winter and Summer X Games, the ESPY Awards, Grand Slam tennis events, the Heisman Trophy presentation and the NCAA basketball Women's Final Four.
Peter Doherty
Senior Producer, NAC/Telecon Operators News, ABC Television
Peter Doherty is the Senior Operations Producer for the ABC News Washington Bureau and has worked at the bureau for more than 36 years. He has produced the pool coverage for every White House/Lafayette Park inaugural pool since 1989 as well as numerous State of the Union addresses, presidential addresses and news conferences. He produced the pool coverage for the funerals of President Ronald Reagan, President Gerald Ford and Senator Edward Kennedy. He was also the overall pool producer for the 1990 Bush-Gorbachev summit in Washington, D.C.
Deputy Director, NGA Support Team at the Defense Intelligence Agency
C. Venus Gordon was named the Deputy Director of the NGA Support Team at DIA in August 2010. In this capacity, she directs the daily intelligence production and staff operations of the NGA embedded elements within the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center, the National Center for Medical Intelligence, and the Missile and Space Intelligence Center.
Ms. Gordon has served in the Intelligence Community (IC) for 24 years and has held positions within NGA and its predecessor organizations and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). In her recent assignment with National Counterproliferation Center (NCPC), Requirements and Gaps Integration Directorate, Ms. Gordon served as the Senior GEOINT Advisor. In that capacity she ensured the full integration of GEOINT into the Unified Collection Strategies (UCSs)that were used to fill critical intelligence gaps on worldwide nuclear, chemical, and biological proliferation issues.
From April 2006 to August 2009, Ms. Gordon served as the Chief of the Asia/Americas Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Branch. There she led a team of 21 analysts in the GEOINT analysis of the leadership and command and control infrastructure of high priority countries. She also served as the Analysis and Production (P) Lead for NGA implementation of the Comprehensive National Cyber Initiative.
From April 2005 to April 2006, Ms. Gordon was the Chief of the Operations Branch at the Time Dominant Operations Center. There she supervised 60 analysts as they provided 24x7 GEOINT analysis of Indications and Warning (I&W) and High Current Interest (HCI) intelligence topics.
Ms. Gordon is a 2001 graduate of the Joint Military Intelligence College, now the National Defense Intelligence College, where she received a Master's of Science degree in Strategic Intelligence Studies. She is also the proud parent of a daughter,
Frank Governale
Vice President, Operations, CBS News
Frank Governale has been Vice President, Operations, CBS News, since April, 1997. He
is responsible for the Division's technical personnel and facilities worldwide, its computer and
data services, and the exploration of the newest technologies to insure the most efficient
newsgathering capabilities. He also is responsible for labor relations, including contract
negotiations with the major collective bargaining units.
Before that, Governale served as General Manager, News Operations (1996-97). He also
was Director, Bureau Operations (1990-96). In the latter position, Governale was responsible for
the design, construction and operations of the technical facilities at all of the CBS News bureaus,
including capital budget planning, the deployment of crews and equipment, and the acquisition
of equipment, manpower and research and development for future technologies.
Prior to that, he was Director, Operations, CBS News Special Events (1988-90) and
Technical Director, CBS Operations and Engineering (1983-88). He joined CBS as a video
operator (1981-83).
Governale was a video engineer for EUE Screen Gems (1981) and chief engineer for
A&G Video Inc. (1980-81). He began his career in broadcasting as a freelance video
maintenance engineer and operator (1978-80).
Governale was born March 17, 1958, in the Bronx, N.Y. He was graduated with a B.F.A.
in communications in 1980 from the New York Institute of Technology.
Samuel Hill
Chief, Africa Division, Office of Eurasia and Africa, Analysis and Production Directorate,NGA
Mr. Hill has over 30 years of experience as an Intelligence professional, within the US Armed Forces and as a federal employee. Mr. Hill is responsible for analysis and production of GEOINT for a wide range of issues affecting the African continent. As the manager of over 100 personnel, in six regional branches, Mr. Hill is responsible for justifying, directing, and allocating resources (people, budget, material) across the Africa Division and for setting organizational goals, objectives, and priorities. Mr. Hill directs the handling of highly complex and sensitive GEOINT problems sets and interacts with senior members within and outside the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Mr. Hill's analysts task and exploit imagery of all types in support of national and military objectives, and conducts multi-INT research, populate various databases, and produce written reports and graphic (video/stills) presentations. His analysts primarily monitor military force structure and capabilities, intentions, and vulnerabilities, emerging technologies, and they monitor international agreements. They also work on diverse issues such as humanitarian relief, natural disaster assessments, and infrastructure.
Donald Hudson
Technical Director, 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing
Donald J. "Don" Hudson is Technical Director of the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Wing, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. He advises the wing commander and senior leaders on technology impacting the wing mission. He works with operations and acquisition to plan, develop, evaluate and implement technologies impacting mission operations, critical for maintaining state of art technology for wing's mission areas. The 480 ISR WG, has over 6000 personnel (distributed across six Groups and 18 Squadrons in CONUS and overseas), manages and operates the worldwide Air Force Distributed Common Ground System (AF DCGS) Enterprise, a critical multi-ISR platform/sensor and multi-intelligence weapon system, which provides critical intelligence to warfighters and decision-makers in multiple theaters of operations and at the National level.
Mr. Hudson served in the U.S. Air Force from 1979 until he retired in 2005. While on active duty, he served with units in the Air Combat Command (ACC); Pacific Air Forces (PACAF); and United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), on the Joint Staff, Washington, DC, in a variety of intelligence positions, to include command at the squadron and wing level.
Director, Office of Targeting and Transnational Issues
James McCool is the Director of NGA's Office of Targeting and Transnational Issues (PR). PR, a major Functional Office in NGA's Analysis and Production Directorate, focuses on a variety of issues that range from underground, economic, environmental and cyber security issues to precision engagement and targeting in support of military operations. He was appointed to the Senior Intelligence Service in 2011. A 22-year career intelligence officer, McCool has served in the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and the US Air Force.
Gary Nadler
General Manager Telecommunications & Affiliate Services, ABC Television Network
Mr. Nadler is responsible for the Operations and Engineering of Network Distribution to the approximately 200 ABC affiliates. In addition he is also responsible for wireless systems used with ABC News, Sports and Entertainment Divisions.
Mr. Nadler is a 32 year veteran at ABC including assignments on large scale operations which include Olympics, Auto Racing, Political Conventions, Inaugurations and special assignments with Disney Imagineering's Research and Development group, Disney World Florida and Disneyland California production and ride engineering departments.
He is also a three time Technical Emmy award winner, a Peabody award recipSient and a receiver of two Disney Inventor awards. In addition he holds two patents (Interactive Entertainment Attraction Using Telepresence Vehicles & Digital repeater module and method for relaying digital data).
A Graduate of the College of Staten Island NY, Mr. Nadler also has a Masters Certificate in Project Management from Villanova University.
Director, Bureau Operations, CBS News
Mel Olinsky has been Director, Bureau Operations, CBS News since September 1999. He is responsible for all news gathering technical facilities worldwide as well as all remote broadcasts, the design and implementation of HD transmission from bureaus and the use of the latest technology for news gathering.
Before that, Olinsky served as Executive Director, Affiliate Services, CBS Newspath (1989-1999). He was responsible for the design and implementation of a digital satellite network for transmission of news media to all CBS Stations. He also managed the Live News Center where newsfeeds were coordinated and live shots scheduled for affiliate stations.
Prior to that, he was Executive Producer WFSB TV, Hartford, CT. and Technical Director WFSB TV, Hartford, CT. He was also a Teacher, Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
Mel was born November 23, 1946 in Mineola, NY. He graduated from Southern Connecticut State College with a B.S., M.S., 6th Year, and Boston College with an Ed.D.
Lead Editor and Researcher for the Executive Products Group, NGA
Ms. Pedersen-Green is the lead editor and researcher for the Executive Products Group at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). She is also the lead of the Vision Implementation Team's Production Process Working Group. Prior to her work at NGA, Ms. Pedersen-Green worked as a staff writer for Wolf Marketing and Media, writing articles on health care and biotech real estate. She is a graduate of Middlebury College. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, running marathons, and the Minnesota Vikings.
Chief, Sensor Assimilation Division, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
Mr. Donnie B. Self was appointed Chief of the Sensor Assimilation Division, within the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's (NGA) Acquisition Directorate in February 2008. Mr. Self leads NGA's activities associated with the acquisition, project management, and integration of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR), and Department of Defense (DoD) tactical data into the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG) along with support for other future systems.
Mr. Self began his professional career in 1973 in the U.S. Air Force. His assignments included work as a mathematician/computer programmer supporting weapons testing at Eglin AFB and duty as Executive Officer for the Comptroller at Headquarters, Air Force Systems Command. Additionally, Mr. Self was assigned to the E-3 AWACS program office at Hanscom AFB, MA, where he supported both the U.S. and NATO AWACS programs as Chief of the Automation Division and as a systems engineer. In 1986, he was assigned to the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) where he served nine years supporting tactical system developments and subsequently NRO/Community studies and analysis with a focus on satellite/airborne interactions. Following his retirement from the United States Air Force, Mr. Self transitioned to industry where he served for over seven years as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer supporting the development of several ISR systems for the Department of Defense. In January 2003, Mr. Self was appointed to a Defense Intelligence Senior Level (DISL) position at NGA leading the integration of airborne GEOINT into the NSG. During his tenure as Chief, Airborne Integration Branch, he led efforts to integrated tactical data into the national architecture and successfully implemented the first national storage and dissemination capability for tactical airborne imagery. He served in this position until appointment to his current position in February 2008.
Mr. Self has a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Auburn University and a Masters Degree in Systems Management from the
Air Force Institute of Technology.
Technical Lead, Online On-Demand Services Group Vision Implementation Team
Joseph A. Smith currently serves as the Technical Executive (TX), Sensor Assimilation Division (ASX), Acquisition Directorate, at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). In this capacity, he is the senior technical advisor to the Division Chief, and is responsible for developing and implementing the future technology roadmap for integration of airborne, tactical, and expeditionary data sources into the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG). Mr. Smith also serves as a technical expert on the NGA Director's Vision Implementation Team, a select focus group responsible for implementing the Agency's plan for transforming the way geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) is produced and delivered to users.
Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Smith served 21 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Commander. His last duty assignment was as Military Deputy, Sensor Assimilation Division, NGA Acquisition Directorate. In this capacity, he was the senior military advisor to the Division Chief, and was responsible for interoperability and integration of ASX data sources (airborne, tactical, space, and commercial) into the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG) and into external customers' systems. He was charged with ensuring that external sensor data was compatible with NGA systems, and that NGA data was discoverable, accessible and usable by external customers. He was responsible for development of the NSG Objective Video Architecture (NOVA), the agency's blueprint for integrating all DOD motion imagery components into a single enterprise serving the diverse needs of the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community and NGA's diverse set of mission partners. Additionally, he represented NGA on the Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) Governance Board and oversaw the Coalition Focus Team and GEOINT Functional Team for the DCGS governance structure, all part of congressionally mandated management structure for executing the joint DCGS implementation plan. CDR Smith was assigned to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency from February 2006 until his retirement in November 2010.
During his military career, CDR Smith served tours of duty at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. THIRD Fleet, the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, and numerous Fleet Squadrons. He completed carrier battle group deployments in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets, and was one of the Navy's leading experts on Strike Warfare; Targeting; Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR); Afloat Systems; Information Technology (IT); and Fleet Innovation and Experimentation. Mr. Smith received Bachelors Degrees in Computer Science and Systems Engineering in 1989 from the United State Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He received Masters Degrees in Information Systems Engineering and National Security Affairs in 1999 from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
Geographer, NGA
Dr. Tankersley is a Geographer with 18 years experience in GIS, quantitative methods, remote sensing, and spatial analysis. At NGA, Dr. Tankersley built and led the Analytic Methods team to improve the rigor of GEOINT analysis. Recently Dr. Tankersley was chosen as deputy lead of the Deepening Analytic Expertise portion of the NGA Vision Implementation Team.
Director, Office of Time-Dominant Operations, U.S. Army/NGA
COL Christopher F. Wolfe enlisted in the Army in 1984 and graduated from Warrant Officer Flight Training on May 29,1986. He served as a Chief Warrant Officer AH-64A Aviator prior to earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant from Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 1988.
Upon completion of the Officer Basic Course in 1988, he served as Attack Platoon Leader and Assistant S-3 with 3/227th Aviation Regiment (Attack) at Ft. Hood, Texas, Hanau, Germany and Operations Desert Shield and Storm with 3rd Armored Division. Following the Advanced Course, COL Wolfe served as Commander, Delta Troop, 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry, 11th Aviation Regiment, V Corps in Illesheim, Germany and Bosnia-Herzegovina IFOR/SFOR1). Upon redeployment from the Balkans, COL Wolfe assumed command of Alpha Company 7/159th AVIM (Apache), in Illesheim, Germany. Following the assignment in Illesheim in 1998, he served as Director, Department of Attack Helicopter Training at the United States Army Aviation Logistics School, and Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 222d Aviation Regiment, Ft. Eustis, VA. Following the Command and General Staff College in 2002, he served as the Deputy Senior Aviation Observer Controller on the Falcon OC Team and during this assignment deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom I. From 2004-2006, COL Wolfe served as the Operations Group Executive Officer at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (formerly CMTC) in Hohenfels, Germany. COL Wolfe commanded the 96th ASB,101st Combat Aviation Brigade,101st Airborne Division and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII. Following his battalion command assignment, COL Wolfe served as Chief, Aviation Officer Assignments at U.S. Army Human Resources Command from July 2009- August 2010. Upon assignment to NGA in August 2010, COL Wolfe served as the Acting Group Chief of the Military Operations Group in the Analysis and Production Directorate through May 2011.
COL Wolfe’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (OLC), Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/ 5 (OLC), Army Commendation Medal w/(3OLC), Army Achievement Medal w/(4OLC), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal(GWOT), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon (4 awards), the NATO Medal, the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, the Master Aviator Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge. COL Wolfe holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Maintenance Management from Southern Illinois University and a Masters of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He holds Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant, Commercial Instrument Rotary Wing and Fixed Wing Private Pilot licenses and is an Adjunct Professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. COL Wolfe has completed the Warrant Officer Initial Entry Course, Rotary Wing Aviator, Airborne, Air Assault, AH64A Apache Qualification and Maintenance Test Pilot Courses, UH-60 Blackhawk Qualification, Aviation Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College and is currently a principal select to attend the Senior Service College.
